Don't fall for the latest postal scam which has been reported by the Royal Mail and The Trading Standards Office, info courtesy of Barnstaple People.

Watch out for any cards which come through your letter box saying they are from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service).

The card will say that you need to contact them as they could not deliver a parcel to you.

The number advised is 0906 661 911 which turns out to be a premium rate number and will cost you a fortune.

If you ring it by the time you start to hear the recorded message you will have been billed £315 for the call.

Anyone receiving one of these cards should call Royal Mail Fraud on 0207 239 6655.

Thanks Old School. I should have checked but as the info came from Barnstaple People assumed it was legit. Lesson learned. The Google search is a really good idea..........so, people, please ignore that story and check out the Crimestoppers website instead.......

If you get sent an email warning of catastrophic damage to your computer or huge financial losses if you download something/respond to something, select a few unique words from the email, add the word "hoax" and run it through Google.

In this instance "parcel delivery service hoax" produced the above mentioned Crimestoppers address.

Sorry for the rant but these things really wind me up, preying as they do on innocent people to continue the circulation of hoaxes!

Please do not be taken in by hoaxes like this - see the report on Crimestoppers at: http://tinyurl.com/68usk7c

I get sent quite a few of this kind of email by well-meaning friends, thinking they are helping their fellow cyber users but they are all invariably hoaxes, the purpose of which is to clog up email inboxes and create fear.

PLEASE also ignore all those messages that tell you that a certain downloaded file will destroy "all sectors of your hard drive" - they are also spurious.
