Karting protege Alex Quinn, from Camelford, is pictured with his array of trophies after a hugely successful 2011.
BRIGHT FUTURE FOR ALEX:
Alex Quinn, 11, a pupil at Otterham CP School, near Camelford, is continuing to go from strength to strength after a memorable year on the karting circuit.
In 2011 he picked up a number of trophies and also gained an award for his ranking of eightth overall in the Honda Cadet British Karting Championships.
Alex raced amongst some of the best 8-13 year olds in the country at tracks all over Great Britain. As this was just his second year of competitive racing, Alex had no track experience at the circuits used by the British Championships and indeed broke some of the existing lap records at these tracks. He was delighted to become a seeded driver in this championship.
Locally, Alex also became the overall Club Champion at Dunkeswell Kart club and secured the Honda Cadet and Libre Cadet Championships as well. Alex also holds the Honda Cadet Lap Record at the Dunkeswell circuit, a track owned by Nigel Mansell.
Alex was spotted by Dan Hazlewood of Fusion Motorsport, the top cadet karting team in the UK and has been offered a position on the Junior Team for 2012.
Speaking about his recent signing, Fusion Motorsport boss, Dan Hazlewood said: "We are really excited to have Alex as part of the Fusion family.
"We set the Junior Team up for 2012 specifically for young drivers like Alex, who are competing on a limited budget and we are hoping that he will be a prime example of how talent can outweigh budgets."
Recently, Alex boosted Fusion's confidence in their signing by achieving second overall and the fastest driver of the day at the first race meeting of the year at Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire.
Alex is excited about the year ahead and is entering two British Championships which will see him racing in televised events in England, Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland.

HOT SHOT HENRY:
In the space of a week Henry Teague, together with his pairs partner, Geoff Risdon, achieved a Hot Shot. Again it was against a Wadebridge duo, John and Margaret Menhenick, in the second round of the Northern Area Pairs. The game was played at the Lanteglos Road venue and the score was also impressive: 31-11 to the hosts.

SOLICITORS SPONSOR PENCARROW:
Village cricket club Pencarrow was given a major confidence boost as Lostwithiel-based law firm, AP Bassett Solicitors, agreed a sponsorship deal for the forthcoming season.
The sponsorship will support the purchase of the 2012 kit, which includes a revamped logo and a new take on the maroon club colours.
It is also a shot in the arm to help kick start the club's five-year development plan, with ambitions to increase participation in the great game and rejuvenate the village side's playing facilities.
Oliver Sleeman, instigating a fresh approach to the club's development, said: "This is excellent news for all supporters and players of Pencarrow Cricket Club and a further lift to our five year development campaign to dramatically improve the ground and increase membership.
"We are delighted that they have joined us in our mission to improve the ground and facilities and engender a sense of team spirit and community at the club."
Pencarrow Cricket Club exists to provide the facilities and organisation to allow all members of the outlying villages and surrounding area the chance to enjoy village cricket. Club membership is open to all.
They seek to attract players of all ages and abilities in order to share enjoyment of village cricket, encourage and nurture new talent and engender a sense of team spirit and community.

TRIBUTE CORNWALL ONE:
Roseland 6, Saltash 46
Saltash went 12 points clear at the top of Cornwall Division One as they accounted for Roseland once more this season.
The home side were slow out of the blocks and allowed the title contenders in for three tries through full back Max Venables, wing James Moriarty and centre Richard Skinnard, with Venables adding three conversions in the first 15 minutes and even at that stage, the match was as good as won.
Saltash scored further tries in the second half through a second for Venables and Skinnard, with fly half Joe Skinnard going over for a brace and Venables adding two further scores.
All Roseland could muster from brief attacking spells in the second half were two penalties for a final total of 45-6.
Saltash have a weekend out of league action this week, so Helston will be doing their best against Bodmin to reduce the East Cornwall side's lead in Cornwall One.
Saltash: N. Grose, R.Rayner, S.Nance, T.Rixon, B.Venables, A.Merritt, J.Webb, S.Hillman, S.Crawford, J Skinnard, R.Allen,J.Carroll, R.Skinnard, J.Moriarty, M.Venables Subs K.Hart, S.Watson, J.Carellis.
TRIBUTE CORNWALL & DEVON LEAGUE:
Liskeard-Looe 22, Falmouth 21
After a fairly even opening ten minutes of the game Falmouth were the first to put points on the board, this came from a catch and drive line out in the Liskeard 22, when hooker Phil Wells touched down and this was converted by Jake Sevior.
After 20 minutes, following a scuffle midfield, a player from both teams was shown a red card. On 25 minutes Liskeard won turnover ball, in the loose, and centre Bas Hocking stormed through to score a good try, converted by James Noel-Johnson.
At this juncture a player from both sides was sin-binned, for an off the ball incident.
In the closing stages of the half Liskeard had two chances to go ahead, from penalty kicks, but both attempts were missed. Despite the flurry of cards midway through the half, it was certainly not a dirty game and both sides were evenly matched.
Into the second half and Falmouth quickly established an early lead when, from a driving maul, the ball was released to the backs and full back Ben Woodman raced through a gap in the home defence to touch down under the posts and Sevior again added the extras.
On 60 minutes, following a high tackle, that was not malicious, Liskeard narrowed the gap with a penalty by fly half Andy Sheer.
In the 70th minute Liskeard turned over a Falmouth lineout and from the driving maul the ball was sent out to the backs for Hocking to score his second try of the afternoon, to put the home side back in front, unfortunately the conversion attempt went wide.
On 77 minutes a poorly directed clearance kick, from the Liskeard 22, Falmouth gathered the ball to send Gareth Lever in for a try, converted by Sevior, to give the lead back to Falmouth at 21-15.
Back came Liskeard and a penalty line kick gave them a lineout on the visitors' 22, from a catch and drive No.8 Lewis Elliott's try and the conversion by Bas Hocking gave the lead back to the home side.
In injury time Falmouth attacked down the left wing, into Liskeard's 22 but excellent defensive work by Kieran Underhill and Andy Sheer forced them into touch, to give Liskeard an important home win.
Liskeard-Looe: Mike Mander, Tristan Nicholas, Phil Morford, Tom Blake, Chris Sobey, James Collins, Yestin Hutchings, Lewis Elliott, Dan Goodman, Andy Sheer, Emerson Allen, Bas Hocking, James Noel-Johnson, Kieran Underhill, Mike Charlwood. Reps: James Dolman, Dan Hill, Ben Kitto.
The 2nd XV travelled to St Just for a CRFU merit table game, unfortunately losing 48-24.
TRIBUTE WESTERN COUNTIES WEST LEAGUE:
Exeter Saracens 20, Bude 64
Two games, two wins and maximum points on both occasions, with a thumping ten-try victory over Exeter Saracens at the former County Showground at Whipton last Saturday and in doing so Bude claimed their first away scalp of the season.
The home side were first to draw blood on three minutes as their right wing Ben Cowley crashed over from 20 metres out.
However, Bude quickly responded and following a penalty for offside on Sarries' five-metre line, loosehead prop Adam Black, making his first start after a lengthy ankle injury, was unstoppable from close range.
Then, on 12 minutes, from a scrum wide out, No.8 Warren Rumble picked up and fed scrum half Steve Yates who shot down the blindside, throwing a dummy pass, before stepping the last defender and touching down in the corner. This time, left wing Dan Pearce judged his conversion kick to perfection and the Seasiders were ahead 12-5.
The visitors continued to build up a head of steam and on the half hour mark, an excellent break from his own ten-metre line by inside centre Paul Williams, followed by some crisp inter-passing saw loosehead prop Black cross for his second try of the afternoon, with Pearce again adding the extras.
Then, three minutes short of the break, Black was over for his hat-trick, from a classic catch and drive move, following a line out on the hosts' five-metre line and the try scoring bonus point was already in the bag for the visitors.
If the city side thought that was it for the half, Bude had other ideas and on 40 minutes, following another penalty award for not releasing at the breakdown, scrum half Yates took a quick tap and after some clean passing down the line, right wing Timmy Green slid over in the corner. Pearce added the extras and at the interval the Seasiders led 31-5.
If the home side were to stand any chance of getting back into the game, they had to score first in the second half and this they duly did on 43 minutes, as full back Kieran Bromell finished off an excellent three quarter's try, following a scissors move on the visitors' 22.
However, the visitors were in no mood to let this game slip and on 50 minutes, following an excellent break from his own 10 metre line by full back Olly Denford, second row Will Kingdon was on hand to take the scoring pass and cross near the uprights, for a simple conversion by left wing Pearce.
Again, Sarries responded and on the hour mark, full back Bromell crossed for his second try of the afternoon, following further good work by his three quarters, to pin the score back at 15-38.
Two tries in quick succession, the first from flanker Freddie Saxton, following a driving maul from a line-out ten metres out, converted by Pearce and the second by right wing Green, wide out on the right, with an extravagant dive to finish, following a kick through on half way and re-gather, brought up the half century of points.
However, the home side were still not finished and in the 70th minute, from a well worked three quarter move, following a line out on the visitors' 22, inside centre Matt Hilton secured his side's fourth try and with it a bonus point.
Bude rounded off proceedings with a brace of tries in the final men metres, to bring up the perfect ten, with replacement Kyle Speare being on the end of a superb handling move from half way, before scrum half Yates crossed in the corner from a line out, with Pearce converting both.
This Saturday, it's back to home territory for the Seasiders, with Ivybridge the visitors.
