BCC's AGM was held last night at the Parkhouse, where the outgoing Chairman, Nick Compton, reported on a very successful year for the charity.

Takings from admission to film evenings had risen, as had refreshment sales and donations. There was also much less expenditure on equipment to the year October 2011.

Thanks were expressed to Nick for all his hard work in promoting thecommunity cinema, and to the other members of the team who have worked hard behind the scenes, including Nicky Vereker, Secretary, Sue Horton, Treasurer, and John Gimson, Membership Secretary. A new Chairman, Sean Everett, was elected, with others agreeing to stay in role for 2011-12.

The AGM was followed by light refreshments, including delicious home made food created by local chef, Nicky Vereker,  and a screening of the film Water for Elephants, starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon. The film was based on a best-selling novel about a circus in the 1930s and the onset of the Great Depression in America. This was free to members but also open to non-members and attracted a reasonably sized audience. A little slow in parts (I felt) but the romantic drama ended with many aahs as Rosie the elephant lived happily ever after.

The next offering will be the latest version of Jane Eyre - well worth a watch - on December 9th.
