Bude Tourist Information Centre named one of the best in Cornwall

Bude Tourist Information Centre has won bronze in the 'Tourist Information Service of the Year' category at the prestigious Cornwall Tourism Awards 2012. The category had some stiff competition with Fal River Tourist Information Service taking silver and Bodmin taking gold.

Following their win, Bude Tourism Officer Mark Hibbard said: "We are one of 26 Tourist Information Centres in Cornwall and to be given a Bronze award for Tourist Information Service of the year is fantastic. It recognises that the staff are successful in looking after Bude's visitors and promoting the town whilst at the same time being mindful that we must operate the office commercially.

He added: "Despite cuts to our funding, we have been able to increase our opening hours and continue to offer our visitors a year-round service. In fact, we are now one of the busiest Tourist Information Centres in Cornwall (and Devon). I'm very proud of Alison, Ann, Clare, Jane and Penny who very much deserve the award."

Joan Symons, Cornwall Council Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Leisure, added: "To be recognised as being among the best tourism businesses in the UK's favourite visitor destination is a significant achievement, especially in such difficult times. Each and every one of the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners should be extremely proud of themselves and I hope that the Award titles drive the businesses forward to an even more successful 2013."
