Bude surfer named Best Rookie 2012

A young surfer from Bude was named The Best Rookie of 2012 at the recent UK Pro Surf Tour presentation evening. Jobe Harriss, who is in the first year of sixth form at Budehaven School has picked up the title following a string of successes.

Jobe competes on the UK Pro Surf Tour which has seven events around the British Isles from the tip of Scotland down to Newquay.
He has competed in three divisions throughout the year: Under 18, the Pro Junior (Under 21) and in the Open Division. After the final event at the British Nationals at Fistral beach in Newquay, Jobe was crowned Under 18 Tour Champion and Pro Junior Champion. He also finished fourth in the Open rankings.
Over the past three months Jobe has competed in a number of events, the results of which contributed to his titles. His most significant results are:
1st place in Newquay Night Surf Pro Junior
2nd place in Newquay Park Eye Pro Junior
1st place in Scarborough Pro Junior
1st place in Scarborough U18
1st place in Thurso U18
1st place in British Nationals U18
2nd place in Llantwit Welsh Open
A spokesperson from Budehaven School said: "We are all very proud of him. Now the next step is to conquer Europe!"
