Budehaven's Cornish Swimming Champion Sets Her Sights on the Olympics

In pursuit of excellence with her swimming, Budehaven pupil Rebecca Anderson swims 5 days a week, sometimes twice a day. 

She travels to Bodmin 4 nights a week (no mean feat!) for swim training as well as swimming in Bude. Her swim training amounts to 9 hours a week in the pool and her aim this year is to increase her pool time! 

But her hard work is already paying off with an excellent year of swimming behind her. 

Rebecca is the Cornish Champion for her age group and is now trying to qualify for the Olympic swimming trials in March, where if she qualifies she would attend as an out of age group swimmer 'for experience'. 

On the road to Cornish Champion Rebecca broke several county records and has broken Olympic medallist Cassie Patton's Cornwall 100m back stroke record, which was set when she was 16 and 18 years old. 

Rebecca swam in multiple finals at the regional championships and qualified for the Nationals – the only Cornish girl to do so this year. 

Rebecca is now ranked 10 in the UK in the 100m backstroke for her age group. Rebecca is also very focused at school and very keen to get good grades in her GCSE's.  She has swimming competitions at weekends and has to travel up and down the country to compete at the level she does. Not surprisingly Rebecca's ultimate ambition is to win a gold medal in the Olympics.
