The Changing Face of the Conservatory Market

In a country where the sky is sadly more often grey than blue, and overcast days are all-too-common, it's little wonder that conservatories boomed in the 1990s and early years of 2000. They bought much needed light into the home and allowed a nation of keen gardeners to feast their eyes on the fruits of their labours whatever the weather.

Best of all this was an extension that was quick, from signing the order to putting in the furniture was only a matter of weeks. The other benefit was also that most of these conservatories were exempt from going through the lengthy planning process.

Bude Windows & Conservatories Ltd were part of that conservatory boom, the demand was  great and there was something for everyone, from the simple lean-to garden room, to a boxed gutter Georgian for a bungalow or a 'P' shape for the real 'wow' factor.

Now in 2012 the traditional conservatory market has slowed, the reason being that we now have a second generation conservatory buyer who feel that they couldn't use their conservatories all year round with the installation of the traditional polycarbonate roof and lack of solar glazing.

The second generation buyers are expecting a  room that they can use 52 weeks of the year, they want tall walls to provide somewhere for their flat screen TV.

Whilst traditional sales of conservatories have dropped we have seen a rise in sales of bespoke Orangery's and garden rooms.  Today's discerning customer want a room to fit in with their lifestyle needs . They want full walls, a shaded roof, an extension to the kitchen or a new family room, somewhere to sit and watch TV, eat or even study.

This change in demand has meant a change in our business to accommodate a changing market. Our fitting teams have become multi-skilled building crews. We design each Orangery or garden room from scratch to include design features that our customers have in mind. Very often these include slate or tiles roofs with a lantern or skylights rather than a full glass roof.

So whether you want a traditional conservatory or a stunning architectural extension to your home we here at Bude Windows & Conservatories Ltd can accommodate all of your requirements.
