The date for Bude Jazz Fest 2013 has been announced. The popular music event will be taking place again from 27 to 30 August next year and will once again be run by the team of volunteers who successfully took over the organisation of it this year.
Bude Jazz Fest 2012 was put together by members of Bude Jazz Club and a number of locals in the town after the company which ran it in the past pulled out, citing concerns over the economy and the Olympics as the reason.
In a recent newsletter the group's Chairman, Paul Mayor, said: "When we first decided to take on the task of running Bude Jazz 2012, our main aim was to produce some great jazz and not make a loss. As time passed, our confidence grew that we would indeed be in profit and by the time the festival began, we estimated that there would be a profit in the region of £12,000 which would have been a fantastic achievement. Imagine our delight then when we had the final figure from our accounts that gave us a profit of, would you believe, just over £27,000!"
He adds: "This means of course that we can now look forward to Bude Jazz 2013 with great confidence. We are already planning to bring back old favourites like Spats Langham, Norman Field and Keith Nichols, plus many more who have been missed last year."
For 2012 the group are looking into expanding the festival, possibly adding an extra day session and re-introducing the Farewell Stomp. New venues are also being researched following the closure of the Bullers Arms.
