Cornish coastline capers.....in a kilt!
-
Scout Leader Kevin O'Reilly
Have you ever seen
a Cornishman wearing a Cornish kilt walking the Cornsih coastline
before? No? Then keep your eyes open this summer as Bude Scout leader
and father of 2, Kevin O'Reilly will attempt to walk 300 miles of the
Cornish coast path wearing his Cornsih kilt.
On Wednesday 25th July
(one day before his 46th birthday) he will leave Cremyll near Plymouth
and begin the 300 mile walk, hopefully finishing two weeks later at
Welcome Mouth, the coastal border of Devon and Cornwall. Kevin will not
be walking alone, joining him will be two young Scout Leaders from
Torpoint who with Kevin last year attended the 22nd World Scout Jamboree
in Sweden.
The trio will have no back up team, no use of pubs or
B+B's, they will be carrying all their kit and plan to be totally
self-sufishent.
A keen Scout Leader, Kevin is no stranger to walking,
over the last 30 years he has completed the Ten Tors, silver and gold
DofE, Hi Dart challenge walks, Chagford challenges, Scout Coast2Coast
walks dressed as Elvis and many many days walking on Bodmin and
Dartmoor.
Kevin said 'I absolutely love the idea of this challenge,
we live in an exceptionally beautiful part of the UK with some of the
most spectacular coastline in the world, what better way to see it than
to go and walk it'.
This walk is a sponsored walk, raising money for
Marhamchurch Primary school to help boost an effort to raise £10,000 for
some badly needed playground equipment. The school which Kevins
children both attend has a dedicated and hardworking fundraising team
who so far have raised over £7000 of the target.
Kevin added 'I'm
really hoping my efforts will go a long way to help the school and to
encourage people to put down the remote, get off your backside and and
get out into the fresh air, if i can do this so can you!. At the
Jamboree last year one of the motto's was "one life, live it!" that's
exactly what us three will be doing this summer'.
And the kilt?
'Two questions i keep getting asked, am i bonkers? and what are you going to wear under your kilt?
Firstly, most probably, secondly, well you'll have to make a donation to find out!!'.
