Valentine's Day in Bude - Your Recommendations So Far......

For all you romantics out there, it's time to start planning that Valentine's surprise, so you don't end up relying on a tired bunch of forecourt roses - at over-inflated prices - on the day.

Celebrate Valentine's Day at the Strand is one option

The Strand's package
Not the best person to ask about romance (given 30 years of partnership with my husband and five children to boot) I did ask around for any local ideas and this is what I've been offered so far (interesting how it mainly revolves around food........!)
One twitter follower suggested a romantic meal for two cooked by Chef Sargie which is a great option. You may wish to see if he's available. Or you may wish to order in some macarons from Made With Love. I've tried these delicious Parisien beauties and can highly recommend them. Ali Beech, owner of the home-baking business, uses fresh, local, quality ingredients and is also making Valentine's cakes to order.....but don't leave it until last minute.
Or you may fancy a meal out. The Strand Hotel is offering a delicious 3-course candlelit meal, with a romantic themed cocktail and a red rose for each lady. Music will be the acoustic guitar sound of singer-songwriter, Tom Palmer, who normally plays in Polperro and at the Smugglers in Cubert. There is a room package if you wish to make a night of it and stay over. But do book early to ensure you get a table..........and don't worry about the recent news. It's still business as usual.
Alternatively, check out River Life Bistro in Bude, which Justin, via our FB page, says has a great menu for Valentine's Day. Hayley, on the FB page highly recommends The Castle Restaurant in Bude, saying they've always had amazing food there. Also Fudgey Wudgey Cupcakey have some Valentine's cupcakes. Meanwhile, Vicky Barnes, holistic therapist in Bude, suggests you may like to treat your loved one to a pampering with a Speizia Organics Facial or a gift voucher to choose their own treatment.
I'll probably do what I always do (which occasionally involves making a heart-shaped cake for the husband and children) but don't let me stop the rest of you.........any other ideas, please let me know! Who does the best flowers in Bude, for example?
