Construction is set to begin next week on a temporary bridge in Bude as part of the first phase of works to replace the town's Bencoolen Bridge.
With work on the existing bridge planned for January, Cormac Solutions Ltd will start work on building the temporary structure on Monday 17th September. The temporary bridge will mean motorists and pedestrians will be still be able to cross the River Neet without facing a long diversion.
As the condition of the current bridge on Bencoolen Road has deteriorated over recent years, Cornwall Council has designed a replacement which will supplement the town's existing flood defences while staying in keeping with the surrounding environment.
Having received a number of comments about the appearance of the original design during the public exhibition, Cornwall Council took on board the suggestions and designed a bridge which removed the need for large towers and supporting cables.
Cormac Solutions Ltd say they will make every effort to minimise disruption to residents and visitors of Bude during the works.
