Service Over and Above the Call of Duty!

I know I've reviewed G's before but just wanted to say thanks to Jen and Steph. We turned up for my daughter's favourite G's vanilla milkshake yesterday, all part of her birthday treat, just at closing time. Instead of closing the door, we were ushered in and Jen made us two fabulous creamy milkshakes to enjoy. We weren't rushed out either, and ended up having a good chat. So, stunning service and, ladies, you made my daughter's day because she'd been talking milk shakes since getting up that morning! Thank you very much indeed!

have eaten here a few times and always received pleasant friendly chat from the staff - the food is always of a high standard and I have no hesitation of recommending this establishment to anyone who want a quick cuppa or a relaxing meal. Keep up the good work

    Great Place to Eat

We ate here last Wednesday as an off chance and were delighted with the quality of food and also the very warm welcome which is important when you have young children. We decided to also eat there last Friday and had an equal experience so well recommended!!!

Vegetarian, gluten free and meat-eating family have a fantastic experience!!!

Can not recommend G's enough. We visited Bude a couple of weeks ago and remembered that we had eaten at a little place 'behind the main stretch' (we don't know Bude very well!)a couple of years ago. It stuck in our minds becaus we had such great service. Our visit this year was even better. Friendly, flexible and thoughtful (they even mashed jacket potatoes and took the skins off for our toddlers). We have a combination of vegetarian, gluten-free and meat eaters in our family and we all enjoyed a great lunch, often difficult to achieve in one place. Thank you G's, see you again soon!

    In A Good Way.........

Tempted as I was by the Wild Mushroom Stroganoff, I had promised my daughters American pancakes and thick ice cream milk shakes when we popped into G's yesterday. They don't normally offer pancakes in the afternoon, being a breakfast kind of item, but owner, Jen, kindly obliged........and, phew, they were delicious and very filling. Youngest daughter could only manage two of hers, though she valiantly consumed all the delicious creamy strawberry milk shake. Even I was full afterwards, so I certainly couldn't complain about service or portion size. Our brief visit was a pleasant break from the heat outside and the crowds pottering around Bude. My son, blissfully unaware of anything I ever say, refused to eat, which struck me as unusual. It transpires he had picked up a takeaway pizza while we were in the optician's, not knowing we'd planned to go and eat pancakes............so, to use the vernacular, he was "stuffed".
Teenage daughter (who recommended the pancakes and shakes combo) said as she rubbed her full tummy: "I feel sick. In a good way". This is probably not the kind of comment any cafe owner wants to hear but my interpretation is that it is 'teenage-speak' for 'wow, that's good; I'm sated'! She keeps going back to G's anyway, with her friends, so that must mean something. Meanwhile, I remain tempted by that Stroganoff.............and my youngest daughter has a way to go to be able to manage a full portion of G's pancakes in syrup.......

    The Extra Mile

It seems that the average emmet (that's a nickname for a tourist in Cornwall, picked that up along the way) likes pretty basic food, pasties, fish and chips, burgers etc... So there we are searching for something a little different in Bude. Pretty much every cafe was the same, then I see on G's sign that they do Vegetarian and Vegan food. Most people it would seem assume the worst when they see that, me I see someone who cares about their food.

So decision made , in we go even though it was empty, not that it was like that for long. The menu was similar to most other places (like I say that it what people want so that is what is provided). However the food served up was excellent and fresh, the service was great and the prices average. The food was home made, not home cooked (ie bought in and heated up on site) and clearly care taken over the preparation. Turns out the chef is classically trained which is not a surprise. Wouldn't give us the recipe for the lovely salad dressing, which even my wife liked it and she doesn't like salad dressing normally.

So if you are looking for a pleasant and relaxing meal with tasty food, don't waste time looking head to G's and you won't be disappointed. It's one of those places that once you have found you will keep going back to.

Tasty American pancakes and milk shakes

My daughter highly recommends the American pancakes and ice cream milk shakes.......meanwhile, her friend enjoyed a full English breakfast........I gather they weren't kicked out for taking their time over their food either. For once, Mum's recommendation met with teenage daughterly approval. Amazing!!

    Highly Recommend!

This cafe was excellent! Whilst on holiday over Easter we visited this cafe/diner on three occasions for breakfast and once for an evening meal and on each occasion the food and drink was great! My wife enjoyed the G's regular breakfast and I had the Extra large brave breakfast which was a mega, large filling breakfast consisting of 2 sausages, hash browns, egg, beans, toast, 2 slices of bacon, mushrooms and tomato but I managed to eat it all! They have on the menu small meals suitable for our children who each had egg, chips, beans and sausage. The cappuccino was fresh and very tasty and our children particularly impressed with the ice cream milkshakes! I was happy to discover that this was a licensed cafe so we returned for evening meal which was just as tasty as the breakfasts - both my wife and I had the burger with cheese + bacon and chips and a lager - the children had chicken bites with chips and sausage, mash + beans we all enjoyed the food immensely. The cafe had a happy friendly atmosphere and I would recommend it to all - well done and thank you!

    ***Fantastic Breakfast - YUM!!****

Yum!! I cannot recommend the breakfast highly enough - I had a breakfast consisting of sausage, bacon, beans, tomato, mushroom, egg and toast all freshly cooked to perfection and delicious as well as being reasonably priced, I had a cappuccino coffee which was obviously freshly ground and tasted great. The staff were extremely friendly, the cafe well presented and clean. I will certainly return in order to try the other meals on the menu and I am sure that they will be just as good as the breakfast - once again YUM!

    Hazlenut Hot Chocolate - Divine

I admit I have not yet eaten at G's but I soon will.

Yesterday, I enjoyed, for my first visit, a hazlenut hot chocolate which actually tasted of hot chocolate not the powdered mulch which passes for it in most places. And the hazlenut shot added a wonderful something extra.

As a vegetarian I made a few investigations; I was impressed to find a place I could go to with my non-veggie friends but also know that I could be assured of scrupulously-prepared decent vegetarian food, using appropriately local and quality produce but not costing the earth. To a veggie, it is important not to have cross-contamination, so I was reassured that all the 'fried' food here is actually griddled and that separate equipment, etc., is used for vegetarian food. It really helps to have veggie/vegan owners, who understand that vegetarian doesn't just mean taking the meat out!

The list of freshly made/cooked items available is impressive. The breakfasts surely cover all tastes and I suspect, if there's something you fancy which isn't on the menu, then the women in charge, Jen and Steph, would certainly listen and have a think about whether it could be incorporated.

On a wet Wednesday afternoon the place was steady rather than busy, but it strikes me that G's is tucked away as one of Bude's better kept secrets, with a good menu and friendly staff. I will be back to taste the food.......meanwhile, 5 stars for your scrumptious hot chocolate and service so far, ladies........
