CAFÉ SCIENTIFIQUE LAUNCESTON
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 20th November at 7.00pm at Jericho's, Launceston, as usual.
The speaker will be Professor Henry Hutchinson formerly Director of the Central Laser Facility of the CLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Imperial College London and the University of Bordeaux, France. The subject of his talk will be : "Prospects for Laser Fusion Energy"
Research towards the development of controlled nuclear fusion as a future source of clean energy is discussed. The approaches employed for its generation will be described with particular reference to the use of high power lasers to create the extreme conditions of temperature and pressure required to ignite a small pellet of hydrogen isotopes and demonstrate the basic science required for the production of energy.
