This also came from the Police via the Neighbourhood Watch:
This message relates to Police Log No. 211 of the 9th September 2011 which related to possible bogus British Heart Foundation callers campaigning in the Bude area. Since circulating our message we have now received further information and have been advised by the Marketing Department of the British Heart Foundation in London that the campaign called Remember a Charity, is genuine and involves 150 charities. The BHF had not informed the relevant branches of their actions. Any genuine callers will be pleased to produce identification. Thank you.
This seems a terrible way to collect for charity. 5 Males standing at your door would be quite frightening to some, especialy the elderly living on their own. What are the BHF trying to acheive......giving people a heart attack !

This quote from Bude Police FB page from Friday says:
We have now had further contact from British Heart Foundation who have confirmed that they do have a current campaign in the area and so the collectors ARE genuine. This was verified by a stop check by police officers yesterday evening who insepected the ID badges of the collectors.
As a member of the local BHF committee I would like to say that we are very upset and angry about what has happened.
Both us and the area office were not informed of what was planned by the Marketing Department in London.
We have always objected to door to door collections etc. and that is why we put a big effort into our fundraising in the area.
I would like to say that the idea that 5 men were at anybody's door is wrong.
Thankyou to everyone who alerted us so that we were able to get to the bottom of what was happening.

I'd just like to say that we received the police notification and I thought it was very odd - I had a lovely young man on the doorstep and he did seem genuine. I was very relieved when the second notification came saying they WERE

oops, pressed wrong button.
they WERE genuine and contrary to the reports above there were NOT 5 men on one doorstep. They were working in teams but they were all knocking on different doors, and they were very pleasant young men. They were wearing official BHF uniforms (obviously provided by their employers) and when I said we liked to support the local efforts of fundraising groups he didn't even ask if I wanted to take out a direct debit.
It was just a shame that the BHF head office didn't inform the local branches and local shops that this was going to happen.

I have a problem with white vans parked outside my house sometimes 4 vans at a time, the thing about this fleet of vans is that they are plain long wheel based vans and not in good condition and inside them are full of BHF charity bags. But the people who drive them do not look charitable and am sure they are conmen and want to know how you can go about reporting this as it is morally wrong and sure the main guy lives near by.
