Does anyone know whether there is any truth in the rumour that the Strand Hotel has been put into administration / receivership ?

Heard the same rumour...I can't confirm on way or the other but if it is true I'm not surprised. I don't believe the business model attempted was workable.

I suspect the only long term option is to turn the place into apartments.

I've asked the question of the Strand management and await a response.

So, TonyFlag, see recent postings. The answer is yes but meanwhile, I hear all workers are still in place and being paid, and the hotel continues to function while solutions are sought.......thanks for the question.

More sad news today to hear that The Strand isn't the only Bude Hotel under administration. Business as usual however, and Bude must continue to support these valuable assets.

Ah, I've missed something. There's another Bude Hotel in administration?

Bude has some very successful hotels that make good profits, others that are operated as a "lifestyle business" or not much more than a hobby and a third type that passes from owner to owner and never seems to get out of financial trouble. Of course I hope the Strand can be a commercial success as a hotel. Not least I hope it can generate meaningful job opportunities for local people. I don't think, however, that we should not close our minds to any possibility of a plan B.
At least let's have the debate. If the Strand can't operate profitably as a hotel should it be converted into permanent accommodation (flats) and, if so, what sort of flats should they be?
You may feel that debate is premature whilst the administrators try to move the strand on as a going concern. I feel we must look at the options now so that if someone does come out with a plan for residential redevelopment we can give a reasonable and reasoned response.

Simon Haskew and Neil Vinnicombe were appointed joint administrators on 2 February 2012. The affairs, business and property of the company are being managed by the joint administrators, who act as the company's agents and without personal liability

Is that the right link because I am not getting any notice of administration when I click on it? Sad news, as per The Strand, if this is right!
