The hotel website has been reduced to a single page, which contains a statement from the administrators (somewhat hard to read) saying that the hotel is ceasing trading.

It is a great pity since the work Sean had done had brought the hotel to a very high standard and made the Strand much more of a looked-after place.

This is the statement on the Strand website.......

Zolfo Cooper statement regarding Property Edge Lettings Limited (trading as The Strand Hotel) - In Administration

Simon Wilson, Fraser Gray and Anne O'Keefe, Partners at Corporate Advisory and Restructuring specialists Zolfo Cooper, were appointed Joint Administrators over Property Edge Lettings Limited (the Company) on 27 January 2012. The Company operates The Strand Hotel in Bude, North Cornwall and employs 43 members of staff.

Since their appointment, the Joint Administrators have continued to trade the Company with the aim of achieving a sale as a going concern.

Whilst there has been interest from several parties in acquiring the business, none have been able to complete a purchase. Regrettably, in the absence of any acceptable firm offers and given the hotel's continuing operating losses, the Joint Administrators have no option but to cease trading at the hotel.

Simon Wilson, Joint Administrator and Partner at Zolfo Cooper said:

"Unfortunately, like so many hotels exposed to declining consumer leisure spend, the deterioration in trading conditions led to increased financial pressures on the business. We will be winding down the operations of the hotel in the coming days and contacting customers with reservations immediately to inform them of the hotel's closure."

"We will review the options for the property and welcome expressions of interest in the hotel and apartments from third parties. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for their dedication and professionalism during this process and wish them well for the future."

The Joint Administrators are in the process of contacting all customers who have paid a deposit for future bookings. Customers who have paid a deposit but have not been contacted should email details of any deposits they have paid to

Interesting, as I contacted thevStrand Hotel management on Thursday and was supposed to receive a call yesterday to update. This didn't happen though I gather things had been frenetic. When I return from Bath I will chase up but it sounds like the seemingly doomed Strand is finally closed again, after a shirt lived new lease of life. Sad for Sean and sad for Bude as derelict buildings quickly become an eyesore.

The Strand Hotel management confirmed the news and that it has been a hectic time. Bude People was thanked for its support over the last year.

Operate the site as hostel type accommodation it may not run at a large profit but at least it will be used and not sit boarded up for several years again.
