@btntash, in what way? What information are you looking for?

ReportWise Old Crow - Well I am hoping to practise Crystal Healing when I get down there, and my partner is a builder - so is there any crisis with regards to employment, I have done some research but it's hard to know what the situation is without speaking to locals. Also, anything about Bude that I should know that could have a detrimental effect on my children growing up there. I do know the area slightly, and again have done my groundwork and Bude seem's a fantastic place to raise (what will be ) an 11 yr old and a 9 yr old, but sometimes it's best to get a locals view. Thanks
WELL DONE for choosing Bude! After years of visiting the area we moved here eight or nine yrs ago, and are very happy in the area. I know of a couple of families with young kids who also moved into Bude because it seemed an ideal place to raise their children, especially if you're active and enjoy outdoor sports, surfing, swimming and so on. Although it can be quiet during the winter, I have found that the benefits of it being a seaside town with plenty of history (the jazz festival, the canal, fireworks displays and so on) more than compensate for the slow pace in mid-winter. Also, Bude has its own micro-climate, so we tend to get different weather to just a few miles inland... Hope you enjoy making a home here.

Thanks Hooligween. I can't wait to get down there. Last time I was down there was a long weekend in october and I am pining for Bude like crazy. We all love watersports, which is part of the appeal. And as for the slower pace in Winter - Thats what I am after.
I just hope that our school applications are sucessful, and we don't have problems with employment down there, But I'm sure all will be fine and we look forward to be coming part of the community.
@btntash.go with your intuition, you are a spiritual person obviously, and you are being lead here.Trust, dont worry, or it will block the energy flow.
We live in Tintagel, so can comment on schools or bude to live. I am sure your crystal healing business will build up slowly, and I am sure your partner is a jack of all trades... the universe wants what is best for you, fear is an emotion only, go for it!

If you are moving to Bude please be aware of the - erm - poor infrastructure and transport situation. For example if you want to make a long trip up north the ONLY bus that will get you to Exeter in time for the long distance coach is the earliest X9. On February 3rd there was no heating on the early X9 bus and crossing the moors was cold, almost as bad as being on a motorbike. The long distance coach operator at Exeter (nameless because of libel laws) provided an old coach with no toilet and the passengers were warned that there would be no toilet facilities for two hours so to plagiarize the words of the song "GO NOW! The coach appeared to have a poor engine that ran very rough and didn't seem to be firing on all cylinders (possibly at least one of the injector pump plungers was defective) Apart from the gutless engine there appeared to be a prop shaft imbalance that caused further vibration at about 55 mph. On the M62 we were unable to keep up with the lorries on the uphill sections and this was with a coach that was only half full! By the time the coach reached Sunderland it was 45 minutes late and the weather had NOTHING to do with it. The local coaches in Sunderland have much more zip than the apology for a vehicle that I had to endure for 400 miles although I suspect that they cost the council a fortune. (the doors were emblazoned "Gold Standard" and they were extremely good). As to trains, these are superb if you can afford them but it costs £230 to ride the express from Penzance to Dundee! Shorter distances pro-rata. Finally I'd just like to mention that I don't want my money back for that rough trip. What I do want is for transport firms to employ SKILLED mechanics. Allegedly becoming a s rare as rocking horse poo these days!
The +++++++s outweigh any negatives in my opinion. I have to travel 'upcountry' for work at times unfortunately and do so by public transport and find cheap train fares fairly easily and encounter few problems with the buses so maybe it was a horrible one-off Davey.
I feel priviledged to live in Bude - with the sun shining today, I couldn't think of anywhere I'd rather be! Steph

@Steph, yes I agree, living in Tintagel is 10 times more inconvenient, what with no post office. I am now working in Bude, and love this place!

ReportTransport links: you'll also find that if you can plan well in advance then rail journeys to the rest of the UK need not be horribly expensive. We often go to London and usually the car park fees cost more than the actual rail ticket from Exeter to Waterloo! The overnight sleeper is a brilliant service, too; I can thoroughly recommend catching it at Bodmin at around 10.30pm; arriving Paddington at about 7am, for breakfast. Then you can have the whole day in London and catch the sleeper back at midnight. Return tickets often cost less than standard daytime fares -- it really is worth being organised and booking three to six weeks in advance. Cornwall is a long way from the centre of England, but we haven't been cut off from it at all...

I relocated just over 3 years ago so know the task ahead you face. I have had a few people join my music classes this term who are new to the area and we'd love to welcome you aboard The Music Train once you're down and settled. We run Tuesday and Thursday mornings with a baby group, a toddler group and pre-school session on each of those days. Due to high demand you will need to book in advance for your free trial. Also from September I am launching new Saturday morning workshops for school age children so keep in touch. http://tinyurl.com/6zcvvss

ReportI put my house on the market a year ago, hoping to move to Bude. Unfortunately it hasnt sold yet ! I spent several weekends last year viewing cottages around Bude, fell in love with a couple that have now sold.....I may rent for 6 months instead. It seems that you are in a position to move in August so congratulations. I have a B 2 B Telemarketing business, hoping to find new clients in the area. I wish you and your husband well. Hopefully we can meet up one day ! we should start a " just moved to Bude" group ! Penny

Not a bad idea Penny. When I was down there last week I spoke to many residents who had moved to Bude from elsewhere.
Still fretting about lack of work that seems to be the case in Bude, but fingers crossed it will all come together. Do hope so as my children have places in the schools, and I will be moving even if I have to squat on Summerleaze Beach :)
Hi there. I was just seeking an update on btntash's post re the move to bude. Am glad it's still on the cards for you. We are also hoping to relocate from London this summer and having kids of 11 and 9 also I was curious to see how things had progressed for you :-)
Hiya, unfortunately the move fell through at the last hurdle due to a local letting agent who shall remain nameless, unless you p.m me :)
Due to that factor I have had to post phone the move for now though I hope to get down there in the next couple of years.
What brings you to wanting to move down to Bude?
X
A big fat cliche I know but we just want a different kind of life. I could write pages about how unfulfilled we are with our London lives so when fate took a hand (work fears and senior school ****ola) we finally decided to try and realise a longtime dream (another cliche -sorry!). Now just seems like the right time and am hoping we wil be settled by sept for first term of senior school. Loads to do by then tho! Hope all falls into place for you also x
If it's any help, I only moved down here in 2011, a bit 'now or never' in our case. Our children settled in very quickly, 1 at primary, 1 at secondary school and 1 in sixth form, although we had a last minute fracas when we realised there were some transfer of school forms we should have filled in and hadn't (check with your local education dept and Cornwall's educ dept) so despite being told of places available by the schools, it hadn't gone through due process. The head teacher at Budehaven was brilliant in helping us sort that out!
The only issues, really, are travel distances to get to other places, and maybe parking during the tourist season, but tourism is the town's life blood, so long may it continue! Local employment opportunities are also limited with Cornwall feeling the pinch as much as, or even more so, than some other areas during these austere times, as are post-18 education options. But then that is counter-balanced by the good things that you know about: the different pace of life, the sea, the walks, the generally safe feel and good ethos, etc, etc. Working as freelance community publisher for Bude People, I have also had the great fortune to meet lots of lovely and very interesting people in and around Bude (and there are many other incomers who exist reasonably well alongside the local people). Great place. I'd say 'go for it'!
We moved here last December 2011, no regrets, best thing we have ever done. Everyone is friendly and helpful. We walk our dog on summerleaze every morning and EVERYONE says hello. Our move took over 20 years, what with family commitments and exams etc. But now we are here and feel so priviledged. Don't give up on your dream.

Thank you guys. I'm gutted I'm not living down there now as planned but I have waited 4 years so I guess I can wait a little more. I WILL get down there as I won't be 100% happy until I am :)
But we shall be down the 1st week of June for a visit. Most excited :)
Bude is beautiful, I relocated here five years ago and am sure I will now be here for the rest of my life

Am so happy to tell you that everything has fallen into place very nicely with our relocation to Bude. Our house sold to the first viewers and we have found a nice little gaff near town. I just wish our 9 year old son was as happy and excited as the rest of us. Is there ever an end to parental guilt? Am sure he will be fine when he meets some new pals but in the meantime can anyone recommend a reliable builder who could give us a quote for a total refurb. Thanks x
Glad u have settled in
M&J Builders are really good, realiable and local

ReportYour 9 year old will soon settle in and make new friends at school, and in good time for High School transition. I moved down here with 3 of mine still at school (then aged 16, 13 and 9) and they all soon found their feet. Still get the occasional moan but they were fine!! There is no end to parental guilt but much of it is pointless! Que sera sera and all that!! Welcome to Bude and hope you settle in really quickly.....
Great news, hope the move goes well for you..........This will be me one day !

Thank you for your kind welcome. It's comforting to read how happy everyone seems to be living in bude. I have been waking with a jolt at 4am unable to get back to sleep. Our moving to bude is a big change, that much further away from friends and family in London but it's probably excitement not anxiety causing the insomnia! Thanks again x Sam x
I go to London quite often, and it's really not that far. Shame we no longer have a train from Bude! Getting 'up north' takes a hell of a lot longer, and that's where I came from. Much better climate down here and lovely people with time for each other. You won't regret it!
