Last week a squad of 14 girls from Budehaven Community School travelled down to Camborne to play against Redruth in the Cornwall U16’s School Cup Final.

Kick off saw Budehaven push through the Redruth defence to secure an early lead from Courtney Ward. Redruth rallied from Bude’s strong attack but still Bude managed to score another goal.

Redruth began to attack harder but defence from Alice Weaver, Stacey Thomas, Jodie Granger and Jasmine Rasher kept them at bay. However, a small mistake from Bude’s defence saw Redruth score an easy goal, leaving the score 2-1 at half time.

An inspirational team talk from coach Claire Gifford, boosted Bude’s confidence, motivating them for the second half. Redruth kicked off, but Bude got straight back into the game with some great play from Bude’s midfield, Becca Cuthbertson, Georgia Keir, Courtney Ward and Katherine Bryant.

Katherine’s speedy runs down the wings opened up the Redruth defence and set up Bude’s third goal placed by Courtney Ward. Bude kept attacking with excellent play from Georgia Keir on the right wing and Becca Curthbertson in centre midfield.

With Redruth 3-1 down they attacked Bude’s defence with strong play on the wings leaving Sophie Tysall to make some great saves.  Holly Stevenson and Charlotte Balston then opened the defence exposing the Redruth goal.

A cross from Courtney Ward was perfectly controlled by Katherine Bryant chipping the keeper for Becca Cuthbertson to score. The whistle blew for full time leaving Bude ecstatic with their 4-1 victory.
