The support workers who work for Stonham Floating Support across North Cornwall have provided a vital service to many people with problems including learning disabilities, domestic violence, recovering drug and alcohol users, at risk young parents and mental health problems.
Commenting after the meeting Dan Rogerson MP for North Cornwall said: “This service ensures that people are assisted to live independently and prevents small setbacks leading to much more servere outcomes.
"I'm concerned that by cutting the entire service in one go, the council will cost itself more money in the long run; to say nothing of the human cost.
“The Supporting People grant funding from the government to Cornwall Council for the coming year has barely changed.
"However the councillors in charge are cutting this part of the budget by 40% and the entire Floating Support Service across Cornwall completely. This will put vulnerable people at risk.
“I have written to the Conservative led administration setting out my concerns about this ill-conceived cut to front line services urging them to reconsider this disastrous policy.”
