Bude - For Excellent Service With a Smile

Popped to the shops this morning and was struck by a few things. Firstly, how I was able to park at Sainsbury's for nothing (don't worry, shareholders, I did spend money there, too). Secondly, was what a lovely day it was and how lucky am I to see the sea when I go shopping? And thirdly, how pleasant everyone in Bude really is.

Today's mission was to buy a book token for a friend's son, to buy scones to smear with luscious strawberry jam and Roddas (cream first, I know!), to get a key cut, and to collect some light connectors ordered by my husband. Was Bude up to the task?

The answer was a resounding yes. My first port of call was Spencer Thorn's  bookshop, which sells all sorts and has a very pretty Easter display. However, I stuck to my guns and only parted with £20 for the book voucher, else who knows what I'd have brought home to my house already heaving with books? Then to Lansdowne Bakery for scones. I wanted plain ones and the young man serving very kindly rooted down to the bottom of the pile to find as many for me as he could. Service was impeccable. Then to GB Locksmiths. I was amazed at the cost of a new key but it wasn't a standard one and the job was quickly and pleasantly done. Luckily, the chocolate shop across the road was closed and I left with my thickening waistline none the worse.

Finally, light connectors. Well, I have to be honest and admit that I went to Gilbert & Vanstone in neighbouring Kilkhampton. Yes, I know that Kilkhampton isn't Bude but it's a tough one because I drove back behind a van called Sandymouth Holiday Park, Bude (which always feels like it is really in Kilkhampton because of the main access route). Poor Kilkhampton - where does it belong? It's Cornwall, anyway.

So, job done. I arrived home around £100 lighter but enjoyed excellent service, largely with as smile, from the Bude (and neighbouring) traders......and felt pleased to have used/supported local businesses.
