The Devon & Cornwall Constabulary is to change its official title to Devon & Cornwall Police.
The Devon & Cornwall force are adopting the title 'police' in place of constabulary.
Although the change of name has been creeping in on vehicles, building signs etc for some time, the official adoption of the term 'police' is a break with 150 years of tradition.
Apparently, the name change will not cost the tax payer any money as it is only being implemented when a new vehicle, building sign or stationery is ordered.
Explaining the move, a spokesperson for the force said that 'police' was the common term in use today and it made more sense to people than the old fashioned term constabulary.
The name change will not mean any change to the existing force logo.
