Films shown at Parkhouse Centre, Ergue-Gaberic Way, Bude
Bude
EX23 8LD
Bude Community Cinema shows roughly one film each month at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude. Regulars can become members of the BCC, and benefit from reduced admission prices but all are welcome to come along -- and the entry fees are deliberately kept low so that as many people as possible can enjoy a good night out without busting the budget. The BCC shows a mixture of mainstream and 'interesting' films. In the past year we've seen Inception, Avatar and the Green Zone among other -- for the early part of 2011 they're showing The Social Network (about Facebook), The Lives of Others (set in East Germany during the Cold War) and The King's Speech. The films are shown in the Ivor Potter Hall which is an excellent space, with plenty of seating and room to relax. The sound and visual quality of each screening is good (easily as good as the small screens at permanent cinemas). The BCC team of volunteers serve refreshments, all at sensible prices, before the show. There's also a raffle most nights where you can win DVDs. When films are very long, there is usually an intermission so you can nip to the facilities without missing any of the film! This is a wonderful local service and well worth supporting. It's within easy walkign distance of the centre of town and there's plenty of parking (either next to the canal, or next to the tourist info centre, or by the Methodist Church). Highly recommended. The only problem with the BCC is that it doesn't show enough films -- if more people attend then perhaps they'll start running films every fortnight! 8/10
