I guess that, having eaten out at some wonderful Indian restaurants in London and Leeds recently, that it was a tall order to expect the same quality of cuisine locally. The staff at Mirchi, an Asian fusion restaurant, could not be faulted (and it was only a takeaway order) and the restaurant, even shortly after 6pm, was busy. They were polite and attentive.
The takeaway was fine - and I got 10% takeaway discount. Indeed, it saw us through 2 sittings, there was so much of it, though when I reheated it, I didn't realise that a kind of styrofoam had been used on one of the containers which pretty much welded to the tin foil in the oven!
The food could have been better though it was certainly edible. It simply tasted a little mundane and dull after what I'd had. To be fair, I'd opted for mild dishes as we had elderly people staying with us who didn't want anything too spicy, and we are vegetarian. But this doesn't normally affect taste. Mild doesn't have to mean bland though. For example, in Leeds the tarka dhal had more oomph to it (although it is supposed to be a mild dish) and they also had more vegetarian offerings such as dhal makhani, which is creamy and luscious. The mushroom bhaji also tasted like totally different experiences in the various places. In Bude, it is a little dry in consistency whereas I think I prefer creamier sauces. The Chana Mosalla was also rather less creamy than I expected. Still, a nice change, and reasonably priced........it had come highly recommended so maybe my expectations had been just a little too high..........but the name Mirchi (hot peppers) seemed something of a misnomer....... Taste comes down to personal preference, I guess, so I'll give it 4 stars on service though I'd opt for 3 on taste! Anyone had a better experience?
Mirchi is OK but not great. The service from drinks orders taken 3 times, to inaccurate food orders, to rice being thrown everywhere, had much room for improvement. The room is cramped and not particularly clean. The food spice balance is poor. It's OK if you just want a curry and a pint, but if you want a good Indian meal in Bude there are better places.

Bude has many curry houses but we found this one was the best of the ones we visited whilst on holiday. All of the restaurants are good quality Indians but Mirchi was our stand-out favourite because its located off the main strip so its a little quieter. It does get busy so may be booking is advisable.
