Further success for IFAs

Two Cornwall-based independent financial advisers (IFAs) are celebrating the New Year after moving a step closer to achieving chartered status.

Worldwide Financial Planning's Chris Rowe, who is based at the company's Wadebridge office, and Matt Higham, who works in the Truro office, both passed the AF5 paper in financial planning process.
Chris now needs to pass two more chartered papers and one paper at any level, while Matt needs one chartered and one diploma paper in order for them to both reach level six and chartered status.
With the introduction of the Financial Service Authority's (FSA) Retail Distribution Review (RDR) on Tuesday, January 1, IFAs have been required to reach level four accreditation for financial planning in order to carry on practicing.
Worldwide's director, Neil Chamberlain, said: "All our advisors have taken the introduction of RDR very seriously and have worked hard over the last 12 to 18 months to achieve the level of accreditation to support our clients following the changes introduced by the FSA.
"Chris and Matt have gone over and above what the FSA require to work towards being chartered and we're all incredibly proud of them and the work they have done.
Under RDR the FSA wants to achieve a resilient, effective and attractive retail investment market that consumers can have confidence in and trust at a time when they need help and advice with their retirement and investment planning.
RDR states that consumers are offered a transparent and fair charging system for the advice they receive; that consumers are clear about the service they receive; and that consumers receive advice from highly respected professionals.
Chris Rowe said: "It has been hard work over the last year or so, with lots of revising and study, but it is worth it to be so close to achieving chartered status."
Matt Higham said: "There's a lot of personal pride in the achievement, but like my fellow advisers at Worldwide, we wanted to gain the accreditations to highlight to our clients that we take managing their investments, pensions and mortgages very seriously."
